ICTP Supports World Tourism Day
More than one hundred tourism boards from around the globe, private and public, national and regional, form the Hawaii, Seychelles, Bali and Brussels-based International Coalition of Tourism Partners (ICTP).
The president of the International Coalition of Tourism Partners (ICTP), Professor Geoffrey Lipman, made this statement for World Tourism Day 2014. He says that World Tourism Day’s welcome focus on communities should be an awakening call for them to play a central role in climate resilience and green growth – the twin pillars of our global future.
Next Year’s UN Summits on Climate and Sustainable Development will underscore the importance of local implementation of new global targets for carbon reduction and for sustainable development – we need to be ahead of the curve.
Lipman re-iterated ICTP’s call to put green on the same page as growth, saying it’s time to link environment and tourism satellite accounts and for industry leaders to start quoting impact figures along with benefits in their forecasts.
He added that it is also imperative to bring the more than 5-year-old UNWTO Davos Declaration up to date and to put community resilience at the core.
ICTP will support destinations and their stakeholders as they look for green growth and quality in their Travelism (Travel & Tourism) activity.
More than 100 tourism boards and many stakeholders including other global association, members of the hospitality and transportation industry, tour operators, and other stakeholders in the travel and tourism industry already joined the International Coalition of Tourism Partners.
