It’s a staggering figure, but about one-third of all food produced for human consumption around the world goes to waste. Modern developed countries are even more wasteful.

Just as we can strive to make our food production more friendly to the planet, we can also reduce the amount of food we throw out. That includes edible food that never reaches the shops, unsold or uneaten food in restaurants, or food we discard at home.

Globally, the impacts of food waste are astounding. It contributes greenhouse gas emissions, uses freshwater that we can ill afford to sacrifice, costs millions of farm animals their lives and accounts for billions of dollars’ worth of human labour, not to mention the vast forests cut down and wetlands drained to produce food that is never eaten, or the mountains of fertiliser and pesticides applied for no purpose.

Anantara World Islands Dubai Resort is in the final stages of development in the World Islands archipelago, located in the Arabian Gulf, approximately four kilometres off the coast of Dubai in the UAE. The new resort is the first hotel in the South American continent of the World Islands development. The island will be completely dedicated to the resort, with guests able to access by boat in just 15 minutes from the jetty at Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort.

Farah Sarieddine was 24 when she was headhunted by Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort to join its marketing team. She had risen the ranks of PRCO, first as a PR junior executive, then PR executive and finally PR assistant manager, before joining Minor as marketing and communications manager.

Just a few months into her role of one of the Palm’s most popular resorts, she was awarded Best PR Campaign for 2018 by Minor Hotel Group, credited as helping to create campaigns that resulted in the highest occupancy and revenue levels not only within the property itself, but across the whole of the Palm.

Sustainability gets a boost at Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara

ABU DHABI, UAE 31st March, 2021

Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara is launching an even greener foundation with a host of new sustainability initiatives that build upon a broad platform of existing energy and carbon-saving practices, staying strong to its sustainable luxury ethos.

The resort will completely phase out plastic water bottles by the end of April 2021, replacing them with biodegradable bottles. The sustainable material is made from corn, where lactic acid is extracted and converted into 100% plant resin, which biodegrades in 80 days. Recycled in bio-degradable bins, it either goes to composting or is reused to make new plant resin bottles. The property went 100% plastic straw-free back in 2018.
