Green Growth 2050 has recently certified all four Anantara hotels in the Maldives to its Global Standard.  Each Hotel achieved greater than 80% compliance reaching GOLD Certification status.

Congratulations to:

  • Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas
  • Anantara Dhigu Maldives Resort;
  • Anantara Veli Maldives Resort; and
  • Naladhu Maldives.

An outstanding effort from the Minor Hotel Group and the local Anantara teams.

Acting General Manager of Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas, Nick Downing paid tribute to the dedication of the resort staff in particularly the associates in the Kihavah Green Team.

The Green Team fully embraced the Green Growth 2050 project and worked with a single purpose; to achieve GOLD Certification.

dsc_0063Coetzer Deysel, General Manager of Anantara Dhigu Resort, Anantara Veli Resort and Naladhu Maldives had the added challenge of bringing together three teams to achieve such an outstanding result. Again, it was the dedication of the Anantara associates that ensured the success of the project.

Wayne McKinnon, CEO of Green Growth 2050 praised the resorts on their achievement considering the challenges faced by resorts operating in the Maldives.  He was particularly impressed with the resorts’ use of state of the art desalination technology coupled with tightly managed energy production initiatives and innovative waste management projects.

While these major areas of utility management form a part of the overall assessment, it was the many smaller projects that impressed the audit team during the recent onsite third-party audit required for each resort to achieve Certification to the Green Growth 2050 Standard.img_1951-1

At Anantara Kihavah Villas, room air-conditioning systems are used to produce each villa’s hot-water reducing reliance on individual electric boilers. Kihavah also have their own bottled water plant producing both still and sparking water for the resort guests, all but eliminating the use of PET Plastic bottles within the resort.

At Anantara Dhigu Resort, Anantara Veli Resort and Naladhu Maldives, their Marina engineering and accommodation island employs the latest technology to produce all the water and electricity for the resorts.  Exhaust heat from the generators is used to produce hot water for the island and the main resort buildings.  A glass crusher, baler and compactor help to reduce the volume of waste leaving the island; a major concern in the Maldives.

Each resort also engages in significant CSR and Environmental programs ensuring the Maldives remains a pristine marine and wildlife habitat.

In line with the luxury hospitality brand’s philosophy that environmental responsibility begins at home, the Anantara team in the Maldives joined forces with marine biologists from Coral Reef CPR in October 2015 to develop ways to protect the coral ahead of the anticipated environmental stresses of global climate change.

reefcprIn collaborating with leading experts in their fields for ground-breaking marine biology research, Anantara is pioneering the HARP programme. Currently all project work undertaken in the Maldives by Coral Reef CPR for HARP is funded by the Anantara initiative ‘Dollars For Deeds’, whereby Anantara guests are invited to donate one dollar for each night of their stay, which is then matched dollar for dollar by Minor Hotels. Dollars for Deeds funds raised in the Maldives are committed over the coming five years to three key focus areas: protection of marine and coastal environments; environmental education; and community welfare.
